Foster Care Resource Worker

Support for Foster FamiliesFoster Care Resource Workers provide recognition, training and support to Foster/Resource and Adoptive parents, as well as recruit and process applications.

Communicator Program

The communicator program is a joint program of the Society and of the Foster Parent Association (FPA) and has been designed to increase the level of support to Foster/Resource parents. The Communicators have been selected by the FPA in consultation with the Society. Their role is to provide you with information, encouragement, support, advice and guidance during any matter between your family and the Society.

Foster/Resource Parent Relief

Resource/Foster parents are entitled to receive paid relief at the per diem rate. The number of days provided is based on an accumulation of days each month that foster care is provided to a maximum of 24 days paid relief per year per child per home.

Foster Parent Association

The Foster Parent Association is active in the development of policies, services and programs related to foster care. It is open to all current Foster/Resource parents of the Society. The FPA hold open monthly meetings, produce a monthly newsletter and organize social activities for foster parents and children in care. The FPA is jointly responsible with the Society for the Communicator Program.

PRIDE In-Service Training

PRIDE is a model for the development and support of Foster/Resource families, which provides in-service training and ongoing professional development. A wide range of topics are covered including: meeting the developmental needs of children at risk, using discipline to protect and meet developmental needs, addressing developmental issues related to sexuality, responding to the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse, supporting relationships between children and their families, developing your role as a professional team member, promoting children's personal and cultural identity, promoting permanency outcomes, managing the fostering experience.

Retention Activities

The Frontenac Children's Aid Society, in partnership with Lennox and Addington Children and Family Services and Pathways for Children and Youth have a collaborative recruitment and retention program. On-going retention activities are offered throughout the year for foster families such as Family Fun Days and informal and formal appreciation events.
