The incumbent will recruit, assess, train, evaluate adoption applicants and applicants who are prepared to foster a child as a Resource placement prior to an adoption being developed. They will also complete written homestudies reflecting recommendations that are in compliance with licensing requirements (foster care) and consideration of needs of children and families who are participating in adoption.
Other Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree preferred, however, consideration may be given to applicants who possess a degree in Social Sciences with a minimum of 3 years related experience in a professional helping role working with families and children
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Ministry of Children and Youth Services’ standards
- Excellent counseling and negotiation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Possess a valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle
- Family and counseling experience
- Excellent organization and writing skills
- Proficiency in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Explorer
- Familiarity with other software such as e-mail programs, case recording software
- Experience in assessment of adoption and foster care applicants
- Knowledge of foster care licensing requirements
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment, training, and public presentations about adoption and permanency planning for children
- Knowledge of adoption and best practices in assessment of applicants and matching of applications with children for whom adoption is part of their permanency plan
